Paper Bag Puppet Craft for Kids

Create a hand puppet out of a paper bag! Your kids will love pretending to be a dog when they finish this paper bag puppet. They can make it as cartoonish or as lifelike as they’d like!

    Supplies Needed

    • Ask students to write a character description for the paper bag puppet they create. The description should include the puppet's name, personality traits, favorite foods, hobbies, etc.
    • Provide students with the template of a three-panel comic strip. Have students draw a comic strip that stars their puppet. Encourage students to include any dialogue in speech bubbles. Post students comic strips around the classroom.
    • Have students create animal hand puppets. Then, ask each student to write a list of facts about the animal they chose to create. Ask students to share the facts with the rest of the classroom.

    1. Think about how you'd like to decorate your hand puppet.
    2. Cut out various shapes from construction paper. Glue the shapes to the paper bag. The bottom of the bag will be the puppet's face. The fold in the bag will be the puppet's mouth. Let the glue dry completely.
    3. Decorate the bag using Elmer's 3D Washable Paint Pens™ and Paintastics™ paint colors. Let the paint dry completely.
    4. Act out a funny story using your newly created paper bag puppet!
